PIV Sleuth and Windows XP

The version of PIV Sleuth available for download is compatible with Windows XP; however, additional libraries must be installed before PIV Sleuth can open image files in XP. This peculiarity is due to the fact that Microsoft did not include a set of libraries in XP that had been main-stays in previous versions of Windows. These libraries were used when PIV Sleuth was developed because it was the most efficient implementation of the image capabilities of PIV Sleuth in the Windows environment.

A new version of PIV Sleuth that will install and run on Windows XP is not yet available. However, the addition of library files listed below to the current version of PIV Sleuth will solve any conflicts associated with Windows XP.

1. Libraries.zip: Download and unzip this file. Copy the DLL's embedded within it to your %SystemRoot%\System32 directory.

2. ActiveX.zip: Download and unzip this file. Copy the files embedded within it to your %SystemRoot%\System32 directory. Then, for each file, run the command

regsvr32 file_name

from a command prompt.

3. You should now be able to open images in PIV Sleuth under the Windows XP environment.
